When would the MIB code be used in the test Get/Walk programs?

Hi again

I'm new to SNMP (but not to C# et al). I believe I understand the theory behind the OID numbering, but wondered when the MIBs would get used for more basic gets/walks.

Would MIBs only be used in a full-blown browser application or do they offer any value when called from (for example) manager.Get() ?

Hi, normally MIB documents provide extra information nobody else knows.

1. Table structure
2. Conformance

For example, manager.GetTable uses MIB information to determine if a numerical OID is for a table. In my practice, MIB documents are only critical if you need to use the textual format of every objects, so I rarely make use of them. Therefore, during the design of #SNMP, I try to split MIB related operations into a separate namespace. What's more, if you check the 0.5 version source code, you can do most SNMP operations while there is little MIB related code inside.

Thanks very much, Lex; very clear and concise answer.

I was worried that I was missing something but it seems not ;-)
